Earwig Music is proud to start its journey on the World Music road by adding this unique band to our artist roster!
From a slamming six-piece band that will rock the largest festival crowd to a budget-pleasing trio, this energetic group sends your soul (and soles), on an exciting worldbeat dance tour. Their Euro Roots World Music ™ repertoire includes everything from grooving Balkan Gypsy songs and bubbling American Dixieland and Klezmer tunes to meditiative Medieval Danish songs. To round off this eclectic repertoire, the group throws in exotic Greek Rembetika (or the Greek “Blues”), some French-Canadian dance tunes, and even a Green Day song or two. A quick listen to their new Earwig Music CD (CD 6901) and you will see why this eclectic band’s repertoire has something in it for just about everyone to like.
Seasoned World Music Tour Guides
The group has been around quite a few blocks in the past 21 years, including multiple tours in Europe as well appearing at the largest folk festival on the North American continent, the Canadian Winnipeg Folk Fest.
Since 1990 the Hi-Dukes have pleased audiences at concerts, corporate events, and private parties. Schools and libraries are especially happy to sponsor the Hi-Dukes’s unique, interactive, educational assembly programs and residencies / workshops.
Proven Crowd Pleasers
To make sure folks connect with the powerful roots music, this engaging, skilled group teaches and leads circle and lines dances when space allows it. The audience is encouraged to drum along on percussion as well as sing along. The entire family, from toddlers to seniors, gets to join in the very accessible fun!
Unique sound
The band’s instrumentation is as eclectic as their repertoire. When Jutta Distler, Terran Doehrer, and Zoi Doehrer appear as a trio, their three singing voices top off kaval (Bulgarian end-blown flute), mandolin, ocarina, Greek baglama, guitar, tupan and darabuka (hand drums), and drum set. The wide array of sounds is complemented when ever possible by adding extra players whose instrumentation can include: acoustic bass / tuba, trumpet / saxophone, trombone, and percussion.
All these instruments create an ever changing color but whatever the sound, every number the band plays grabs your attention, gets your feet tapping, urging you to dance.
Rooted
The Hi-Dukes come from and play within various ethnic communities: Danish, Jewish, Greek, Hispanic, Irish, and Bulgarian, reflecting American diversity. (Great for 4th of July events!) This band knows how to reach all audiences, regardless of age or background.
So stay “On The World Beat” with Jutta & the Hi-Dukes! It is a wonderful road to travel when you have seasoned tour guides like these!
