Copeland is a very talentd guitarist with a keen ear for lyrics and a quiet, effective vocal style. He’s not exactly a full-scale bluesman, but he can play the blues and uses a slide with skill and passion. On this CD, he performs a range of original songs, from the very bluesy “What’s Your Name” to the jazz-inflected “Ginseng Girl.’ He gets some classic backup from Honeyboy Edwards on “How’s That Drummer,” and the Robert Nighthawk chestnut, “Anna Lee.” Copeland, from Canada, is a skilled and creative guitarist, and he works across genres as smoothly as he plays.
