Bassist, composer, and educator Shannon Hoover (Greenville, SC) has extensive experience and training in styles covering a wide musical spectrum (classical, jazz, latin, blues, R&B, funk, gospel). He has his B.A. in Music Performance – Double Bass from Anderson University (SC), with minor areas of study including Music Education, piano and brass. Shannon has been a music student since elementary school, studying theory and voice. He then went on to study brass while at the same time learning bass.

Shannon has always absorbed as many different kinds of music as possible, and has seen it as a valuable part of his sound. Early high school was when he found jazz, which then led him to classical music to get a solid foundation. Shannon studied at Anderson University (SC), where he received a degree in upright bass performance, helping him perfect his technique, also playing as many as five nights a week while in school.

Since college, Shannon Hoover has been teaching privately, recording, composing, and has had the unique opportunity to perform with many of the best musicians in North/South Carolina and Georgia. Some notable recent performances were at the Savannah Music Festival (Savannah GA), Panorama Carribbean Festival (Virginia Beach, VA), Ovens Auditorium (Charlotte NC), and High Point International Festival (High Point NC).

Other affiliations include Biltmore Estates (Asheville NC), Cliff’s Golf Communities (Asheville NC), GAMAC Symphony Orchestra (Anderson SC), and Wolfgang’s (Highlands NC).

Some recent performances with Yonrico Scott, Jeff Sipe, Kofi Burbridge, Derek Trucks, Joe Craven, Rick Simerly, Chris Vadala, Pete McCann, Craig Wagner, along with many others, have helped Hoover continue to share his passion for music creativity and growth.
